Revidert nasjonalbudsjett: Rettshjelpen siktes

NOAS is deeply concerned about this development.

On Tuesday, the revised national budget was presented, and thus much of the financial framework for NOAS in 2025 was clarified. NOAS does not hide the fact that we are very disappointed with the result, and worried about the long-term consequences of this. Legal aid for asylum seekers and refugees was not prioritized. Lack of funds for this work in the revised budget has dramatic consequences for NOAS.

NOAS receives almost 4,000 inquiries each year and the need for information, guidance and legal aid is greater than ever. Without our assistance, many would not be able to have their basic rights fulfilled.

Access to free legal aid is important for all those in our country who otherwise have no other opportunities to have their rights protected. In a turbulent time when many may feel excluded and their situation not recognized by society, it is disappointing that the allocation to legal aid organizations was not strengthened in the negotiations this year. Free legal aid is often crucial for vulnerable groups to have their rights fulfilled, and helps strengthen Norway’s compliance with our international obligations, the rule of law and ultimately our democracy.
