New shocking report released
A NEW report released on April 9 describes the situation of asylum-seekers in Greece as "alarming". This is the conclusion presented by Oslo-based groups the Norwegian Organisation for Asylum Seekers and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, as well as the Greek Helsinki Monitor in Athens. According to Sylo Taraku of the Norwegian Organisation for Asylum-Seekers, who spoke with several asylum-seekers during his visit to Athens last month, foreigners seeking asylum in Greece have a greater chance of being beaten up by the police than of being granted asylum. "It is shameful that a person who flees his home country, hoping for protection in Europe, instead is beaten up by the police of an EU country," he said in a press release.
